Building on the success of our previous Dubai conferences, and drawing on the insights of experts steeped in the Gulf region's history as well as its recent development, Offshore Investment is once again providing a forum to examine where in real terms Dubai and the region now stand in a fundamentally changed world economic order. In particular, the focus will be on the region's vast private and sovereign wealth and other factors that have driven forward Dubai's position as a trading hub and portal to the Indian sub-continent and Far East.
As well as providing a regulatory and legal model copied in other regional financial centres, Dubai rapidly developed to the point where no other Middle Eastern city compares in terms of infrastructure and logistics. To assess where the effort of creating this modern economy is leading, the conference will concern two main themes:
Day 1: Investors and financial service providers cannot ignore the exponential growth of Islamic banking and Shari'a-compliant finance, or the determination of Dubai and other regional centres to foster their continued development. Nor can they ignore how the regional property market has impacted on foreign and local investors alike. Our experts consider what is likely to happen next in these key sectors, together with the all-important question of the uses of UAE tax treaties.
Day 2: The Gulf presents a unique set of circumstances concerning family wealth and its transmission over generations. Our speakers offer practical insights how far it is possible to combine modern wealth planning techniques with Islamic law principles and explore the specialised planning challenges that Indian and Arab families raise.
The Conference closes with a powerful examination of the emergence of private litigation as a response to international terrorism and the implications for global financial centres.
